About ShesSoCrafty Goods
Meet Lisa… She’s FunLife is a journey and it’s not always linear.
A question I sometimes ask myself is how did I get here. Well… That story begins in 2007 when I responded to a Craigslist ad seeking people interested in creating a TV show for kids centered around art and creativity. At the time, I was very active in the Artist Trading Card Community and thought, “This seems fun.” We made puppets, did tutorials for kids on how to draw basic things, and showcased classical art. My character was named Ms. Crafty. We started attending craft shows, selling T-shirts and coloring books. Eventually, I began working with felt, which became my first love. I chose the name ShesSoCrafty (sorry to everyone who came after… that’s me on the internet everywhere). Then, I opened an Etsy shop.
I started by selling handmade felt jewelry and accessories, including bold statement necklaces, layered and embroidered fascinators, and earrings. Then, I began making felt Christmas ornaments. As more of my friends started having babies, I designed my own pattern for felt baby shoes, which exploded online. Between wholesale and retail through my Etsy shop, I made well over 3,000 baby shoes in just a few years. While I loved making them, making the same thing the same way that many times with your own hands can make you need to take a little vacation from crafting for a time.
In 2013, I decided to take a break. I put away my needles and entered the corporate world, spending six years working in finance at a nonprofit in the affordable housing space. Eventually, I missed the makery and took a brief hiatus to heal myself after a particularly rough time that left me feeling supremely burnt out. But I also missed creating, so here we are! I’m taking a break from felt, but I’m back with the same design style, this time on a range of products including stickers, water bottles, glass beer cans, tote bags, T-shirts, and more— you know… things adults can use ;). I wanted to bring my design sensibilities to items that can be personalized and brighten your everyday world.
When I started crafting, my son was just a baby. He’s now graduated from high school and started college. To say I’m proud of him is an understatement. He helps me with 3D printing keychains and bag clips in his downtime.
I’m married to a fantastic man who has supported me through all the different phases of my life. He’s a musician, and you can find his music online at leewilliams.live.
I love fun, music, and especially when the two come together. I enjoy fun cocktails with friends, and we have a long-standing virtual happy hour that started during COVID and somehow we have managed to continue it to this day. These people help me navigate life, and as a grown person, it’s so important to have a tribe. We do silly things like Taylor Swift dance parties, and yes, I’m about 45. I’m a “water girly,” and in the summers, I love going to the beach and hanging out on the Chesapeake Bay. Hart-Miller Island holds a special place in our hearts. I love a good boat margarita, but more importantly, I believe it’s silly to take yourself or life too seriously. Everything changes, including you, and it’s best to approach it all with a sense of humor and people who love you for who you are—quirks and all.
I love good jokes, salty senses of humor, and environments where people can be themselves. As a mom, I think my son would say (after dying of embarrassment) that who I am online and everywhere else is exactly who I am in real life. Honestly, I believe your kids are the best judges of your true character, warts and all, the good, bad, and indifferent. My favorite part of this makery journey is showing him new stuff I’ve made. When he shakes his head and sighs, I know I’ve got a winner.
I also love good design and clever displays of personality. Music is a big part of my life, and I often incorporate it into my work. I create my own designs, think about what I want to say, and figure out the best way to express it. I print on-demand T-shirts and clothing items, often using designs I’ve previously created. Everything else is made by hand. When you order from ShesSoCrafty Goods, you’re getting a unique piece made just for you.
I’m so glad to meet you! I hope you stop by the shop and take a look around. I typically list new items every few days, so there’s a little something for everyone.
